Scottish Branch Autumn Weekend

Friday 22 October, Saturday 23 October and Sunday 24 October

Just an update on the Autumn Weekend event.

Some have been asking about the theme for the weekend which, given that we will be approaching Halloween that weekend, will be a Halloween theme. So thinking caps on and let your imagination run riot and come up with some original ideas - not too scary though!!

We will also have some suggested ride out routes as Aberfoyle is a great starting point for a lot of excellent circular routes and as the village of Killin is fairly central on most of these and has good facilities we will arrange to meet up at the Falls of Dockhart Inn at lunch time on the Saturday.

The 3 week set aside of rooms by the Hotel is due to finish on 17 September so if you haven't booked yet now is the time to do so - although booking may still be possible after that date, better safe than sorry.

Please remember to drop me an email after you have booked so we can keep tarck of the numbers and to pay the hotel 7 days before the event.

Scottish Branch Lunch Meet

Sunday 15 August at 12.30 Lobster Pot Blackness

As the restrictions are easing a little we now have a date in the diary for a lunch meet at the Lobster Pot in Blackness on the 15 August at 12.30, which George Ogg has kindly organised with the venue.

Depending on the venue restrictions in place at the time it may not be possible to accommodate everyone on a single table but that should not detract too much from what will be our first lunch meet for a very long time!

If you are intending going on the 15th please can you email ian.b.mackay@blueyonder.co.uk by 10 August so we can let the Lobster Pot know how many to cater for.

You can view the Lobster Pot web site at :-

Scottish Rally Virtual Event  'Scottish Guzzis go Zoom'

Due to the restriction that will still be prevailing at the May Bank Holiday weekend we will not be able to hold the usual Scottish Rally however we will have a Virtual Event on Saturday 1st May at 7.30pm.

We have held a number of virtual events since lockdown which those who participated  enjoyed immensely.  However as there will be a small easing of the restrictions at the end of April (6 people from 3 households can meet outside) some of us have decided it would be a good idea to meet in small groups in the garden / outside to get more of the real "Scottish Rally" party atmosphere while participating in the Zoom Event.

You just need to set up your Zoom laptop / tablet / phone outside (Wi-Fi permitting) to visually encompass your group which with a little ingenuity should be possible.

Don't worry if you are not able to get a small group together, just join in the Zoom Event anyway, all are welcome!

I am sure you won't need reminding to have a fully stocked bar available - it wouldn't be a "Scottish Rally" without it!!

To join the meeting click on the link below and that should take you straight to the waiting room to then join the meet. You can also use the meeting ID and Passcode but clicking on the link is the easiest method.

Relevant  Restrictions from 26 April 2021 in Scotland

  • extending outdoor socialising to permit up to 6 people from up to 3 households to gather
  • travel within all of mainland Scotland permitted (subject to other restrictions that remain in place)
  • tourist accommodation to reopen (self-catering accommodation to be restricted in line with rules on indoor gathering)
  • outdoor hospitality to open till 10pm with alcohol permitted. Indoor hospitality permitted without alcohol and closing at 8pm
  • social mixing in indoor public places will be subject to current maximum of 4 people from up to 2 households

If you have not used Zoom before it is very easy to log in to the meeting room. The link below to the video explains in simple terms how you go about using Zoom and joining in the event.

Moto Guzzi Club GB Scottish Branch 100 Year Virtual Celebration

20 March 2021 Saturday

'Scottish Guzzis go Zoom'  - Virtual 100 Year Celebrations

Moto Guzzi  was established on the 15 March 1921 so we are approaching the Guzzi 100 year birthday and time for a wee party! virtual of course.

So we have organised another Zoom meet which will take place on Saturday 20 March at 7.30pm to celebrate the occasion.

The theme will be 100 years of Moto Guzzi and we will leave it up to individuals as to how they wish to participate within the scope of the theme!! Plenty of time for a bit of head scratching to come up with some super ideas. Don't worry if you can't  - you can still join in the fun on the night.

Just fill the fridge with Birra Moretti and / or some Chianti and a Pizza in the oven to get you in the mood.

Also if you have any themed material (photos, videos etc.) that would add to the evening's entertainment you can either have it ready to screen share on the night or forward it to me by email prior to the meet so I can hopefully include it. All contributions will be very welcome.

If you have not used Zoom before it is very easy to log in to the meeting room. The link below to the video explains in simple terms how you go about using Zoom and joining in the event.

'Scottish Guzzis go Zoom'  - Virtual Festive Rally with Music & Magic

On Saturday 19 December we are holding the above virtual event as it is not possible to have our usual Christmas / Festive Doo with all the current covid restrictions.

The event will commence at 8.00pm and will feature Graeme McDonald entertaining us with his one man band music and his amazing magic tricks throughout the evening. Graeme now has a new broadband link and a variety of connected equipment to achieve a professional presentation

There will be plenty of opportunities to chat to all your friends some of whom you possibly will not have seen for some considerable time.  So enter into the Christmas spirit and of course any other kind of spirit, beer or wine etc and be sure to join in the fun - Santa Suits and Christmas jumpers optional!!!

Joining the Zoom meeting is simple, just click on the "Join the Meeting" link below  (highlighted in blue) and it will direct you to the Rally event. If you have not used Zoom before it will ask you to download the Zoom App,  just follow the instructions and you should then be admitted to the event. Rather than me explain all the features it is worth looking at this You Tube video   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9isp3qPeQ0E which explains very simply how to join the meeting and how to use the basic features. Anyone with an internet connection with a computer, tablet or smart phone will be able to participate.

If any of the more experienced Zoomers have anything they would like to share on screen (photos, videos etc) just let me know and we should be able to accommodate them.

We look forward to seeing you all on screen on the 19th.

Cheers

Ian Mackay
